Traff's Grandad

Today Traff and I went to see Traff's Grandad- He's 94, and frankly what he doesn't know isn't worth knowing.
I always enjoy spending time with him- He and Traff and really close too- because he's so interesting and enthusiastic about everything- he's really quick witted with his humour and cheeky. You can certainly tell that he and Traff and related. And he calls me beautiful. I'm a sucker for a charming man (Yeah, I don't know how I ended up with Traff either as charming he is not!).

We went out for lunch and just walked the afternoon away. He told us about attending school in the east end in the 1930s "They were called eliminatory schools then, and you did english, Maths, Geography and PE- it wasn't like schools now- you left at 14, it was a basic education and you didn't sit any exams." He told us that he was lucky that his school was pretty good. He only realised when he joined the airforce at 18 (WW2) and had to write other peoples letters home because they couldn't.

He told us about being demobbed from the RAF after the war, he said he had a job interview in every new town going (Welwyn garden city, Hemel Hampstead, Hatfield, Hitchin, you name it I applied for factory work there!) but was thwarted by the lack of housing, because he was still living in a tenement in the east end with his wife, 2 small children and 3 other families (like on call the midwife!).
His wife threatened to move hack to wales, and he looked for work in the coalfields but it wasn't to his liking ("too mucky, too much coal and it was all unskilled- by this time I was an aircraft engineer!")

We discussed a great many things. He liked my mobile phone- he describes this as a "space age" because theres so much technology. He's very impressed with it all "Sending emails is much more sensible than having 8 postal collections per day like in the 1930s!".
He also likes mobile phones "You should have seen the size of the thing when we first got on in the 1950s!".

So today, I am well fed and well educated.
And I have some adorable photos of Traff and his parents wedding photo to share.
I sent them to his mum too- she was pleased- She rang to tell Traff how  cute he looked!
