Blanket for pregs and kelly's baby

I have put my Crochet skills to good use once again to make a baby blanket for my colleague. I started this almost a month ago whilst he was on his paternity leave and it's still not finished! If I don't get a move on the baby will be too big to fit in it!
Still, I'm sure the thought will be appreciated. It was a whole department effort with Phil, Tina, and Suzi crocheting bits too.
I have just been left to complete the project. That may have been an error...

Vintage crochet hook stash

Today tina, Phil, Chrissie and I made 4 meters of bunting for a celebration event at work next week.
In our making and looking for fabric and resources for the bunting I found these!
The box was empty so I have adopted it. I also found a whole tin of crochet hooks. These are a small few the bigger guage ones. I left all the teeny ones. I don't do delicate! This has made my week.

Granny stripe jumper instructions

Crochet summer top

Crochet hand warmers

I borrowed this awesome book from the library- I will be buying my own copy because I want to make the coat, rug, dress and mixed up stitch jumper. However, I have coped and am posting some easier instructions that I'm having a go at- because I need to give the book back and I haven't quite finished yet!

Today Tina and I had lemon curd victoria sandwich and chai tea to give us plenty of energy for crochet!
I taught Tina to make granny squares. Her first project will be granny square slippers!

Pintesting & Milkshakes with Abi

Today I had to go to the hospital for a series of blood tests to check the function of my adrenal glands. This was a bit of a rude start to the day at 8:30am- on arrival I had to be swabbed for MRSA (including the inside of my nose!) which was alarming and then be stabbed full of holes which made me far more awake that I'd have liked, but once they were done I had a reasonable chunk of the day left to do something interesting with.
The ward was interesting at least, as we were there for most of the day it gave us something to discuss- it was the old victorian childrens' ward and had tiled images of different nursery rhymes. I had the bed under goosey gander. It gave us a conversation starter at least and it transpired that Traff thought the nursery Rhyme was "hairy mary quite contrary".
http://www.bedfordhospitalcharity.org.uk/rhymesreasons
We walked back from the hospital as it was a really nice day, and as suggested by the nurse we went and found some iron rich foods for breakfast. I don't think I've eaten a greasy spoon cheese and bacon burger for breakfast since I was an undergraduate student! Delicious!

I was recently introduced to pinterest, so I thought I'd have a go at a few pins- Only using the contents of the craft cupboard so I was a teeny bit limited, and I wasn't really feeling up to heading back out to pick up anything else- so we're very much in cardboard and wool territory.

I tried making a woven bowl using a cardboard frame:

I didn't have any pins I was willing to lose to a craft so I made a hybrid of the pin and a cardboard frame I'd see sold in hobbycraft- I'm sure this could have been improved by being a bit more careful and actually measuring the distsnace between the posts.

And I made a pompom garland:
The original post suggests wearing it as a scarf, but it's a bit to itchy and lumpy- I've decided to use mine to decorate the headboard.

In the evening I met with Abi as she was in town for some research for work- We had intended to be very grown up and go for coffee, but we ended up going for milkshakes- the ones where they blend sweets with ice cream and milk. :D
Not so classy, but deffo more inkeeping with the weather!

Project bags

Today I made 3 more project bags from fabric scraps to keep my crochet projects in- and it makes my front room look a whole lot more tidy!
No more sandwich bags and raining miles of yarn for me!
:)

I'm using the big spotty bag to hold my massive autumnal colours blanket and all the yarn I'll need to finish it- It's such a big project that it's taking a long time, by leaving it out I remember to do a few rounds when I'm watching TV but the yarn was starting to get unravelled and dusty so hopefully this will keep it a bit cleaner.

The flowery bag (I know, it's so ugly! Jen and I bought that duvet cover to make up a toile for a 50s style dress- it's vile!) is for squares.
When I finish a ball of yarn and there a bit left over I make double knit 4 round granny squares. I'm not sure what I'll do with them yet but I have loads.

The pumpkin bag (I bought that fabric when I was about 14 to patch and flare a pair of jeans) has all my tatting stuff in it- Tat's and I have been doing tatting lately as a way to practice new stitches- it was originally a way for the lower classes to recreate the lacework they couldn't afford but was fashionable with the rich- usually it's done with a very thin cotton thread, but I'm using a 5mm crochet hook and double knit and making some interesting things!

Crochet

Today tats chose the pattern from the book of beautiful things. I think it looks like a snowflake!
I also had to learn the "double treble"stitch. I've ben doing those by accident for ages! I never knew they were a real thing!
so may loops!

Crochet flowers take 2

Tat's has a book we're attempting to work through which has 200 different shaped crochet pieces to produce.
At the moment we're working through the flowers- I'm not sure why but that is where we started in the pub last week.

This is this weeks crochet offering.
I wish I'd inverted the colours- It's cool, but it could have been cooler. I do love that multicoloured wool though- it reminds me of sprinkles!

Tats is trying to teach me to read patterns but I'm still pretty hopeless!

Crochet

I met Tat's after work for tea and cake and a crochet project- Tats picked us out these flowers to make- they're not too tricky but they do look very cool!

I haven't done any crochet since January when I made my Snood- Poor Tats had to remind me of how to do half the stitches.

1940s style snood

I had a crochet day with Tats today- She picked out a pattern for us to attempt- the instructions for this are in the crochet section on here,as it's something I've been wanting to make for ages but the pattern is a bit confusing.
I've wanted to learn to increase and decrease my stitch numbers because I'd like to make a jumper (I know, such a cliche) and this was the perfect project to practice on (because it should be symmetrical, so if you're getting it wrong it'll be obvious very quickly).

Basicly, you're making a dinner plate sized doily. you can use any pattern as long as it ends up more-or less circular and the holes aren't massive otherwise all your hair will escape and make you look less chic. we used double knit and a 4mm hook- loads of patterns say to use thread but honestly, I think you'd just end up looking like a hedgehog unless you use a really tiny crochet hook.
It's fine if it goes wibbly, no-one will know once you're wearing it.
Mine is, as you can see, wibbly when flat.
Tats followed the instructions to the letter and threaded hers with yarn to make the hat-shape (- which she chained instead of plaiting because it was too much of a headache). I've used elastic for mine and it stays in place much better. no kirby grips for me!

Crochet ginger bread man cookies from Repeatcrafterme.com

No need to worry about putting on extra weight during the holidays we these calorie-free crocheted gingerbread man cookies! Great as an appliqué, ornament, or holiday decoration. String them together for some gingerbread garland! Or sew two together and stuff with a little poly-fil to make a little stuffed toy. Finished gingerbread man measures approx. 3.5" x 2.5".

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn in brown and white. I used Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in Honey which is a great gingerbread color!
- Size G (4.00mm) Crochet Hook (or larger if you wish to make larger gingerbread men)
- Tapestry needle
- Small pom-poms for eyes and buttons and a little piece of red yarn for the smile.

Abbreviations:
DC = Double Crochet

Gingerbread Man Cookie Pattern

First lets make the body...
Magic ring, ch 2, make 10 DC in ring, join to first DC, chain 7

Chain 5, DC in 3rd chain from hook, and in next 2 chains, (now you are back to your 10 DC round) skip one stitch and join to next DC stitch (this should be the same DC as where you started the first leg)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Now make the head...
Magic ring, ch 2, make 12 DC in ring, join to first DC, fasten off and weave in ends.

Attach circle (head) to body with tapestry needle.

Surface slip stitch around entire edge if body. HERE is a great tutorial on how to make surface slip stitches.

Glue or stitch on face and button embellishments if desired.
I used small pom-poms from Craftprojectideas.com for the eyes and buttons. They came in this package of Rainbow Assorted Poms. You can find them HERE or at Walmart stores. I glued them on along with a small piece of red yarn for the mouth. You could stitch on a smile or crochet small buttons and eyes as well.

Now here is the tutorial in pictures:

You can leave the gingerbread man "nudie"

or add embellishments!
