We knew it would be an exciting holiday when just as the crew were about to shut the aircraft doors for take off 4 "gentlemen very much the worse for drinking" got on wearing silly hats- and the "leader" wearing a pink suite. all visibly shitfaced and joined in with the safety breifing.
Sadly, there was a space next to my mum.
We got pink suit.
It turned out his name was joe. he was an english teacher. and they were on a rugby tour.
He told mum mum that she looked like my sister. then told me I looked like a bloke. excellent. all before take off.
He then attempted to sign up all the children on the plane to join their schools rugby clubs.
then he attempted to get into the "brace" position. couldn't do it and asked if he could lie in my mums lap instead.
This carried on for 2:30 hours.
We landed at about lunchtime so we took the bus to Dubrovnic from the airport rather than getting a Taxi.
So we got to see more of the views from the coastline- and more of the rain.
Apparently it never rains in Dubrovnic. but it piddled down the whole time we were there! ARGH.
We got lucng in the city then headed out to Lapad where our hotel was- this time by local bus. it was an interesting kind of an adventure. we got off in completely the wrong place and a local man had to take us to our hotel through a series of alleyways.
These are the views from our hotel balcony.
Mummy McDonnell
Our free Dubrovnic sight seeing guide. :)
Views and grey clouds..
Pomegranate tree!
There was loads of traditional music and singing coming for one of the bars just down from the hotel, when we were waiting for the bus to go back into town we saw the wedding cars and the bride and everything. very different to here!
Shell damage from the 1991-1992 war.
Ice cream! Dubrovnic doesnt really have cake- the famous "dubrovnic cake" is a kind of creme caramel topped with peanut brittle. however, their icecream is awesome!
It's a medieval walled town.. teeny weeny streets and millions of flights of stairs- not one for retirement.
Catholic church. it was destroyed in the war- so the organ, alter and windows have been restored to their former glory.
Designer jewelry!
Pirate treasure!
Rain. we went looking for some dinner and found a pizza place- although croatians don't seem to be big into tomato- so it was kinda like a giant cheese on toast. liberal use of gorgonzola and red meats.
Followed by what we thought would be an americao. no. shots of coffeeeeee.
The rain had subsided enough to go back out onto the stradun- although the cobbles were really slippery!
Church- all lit up!
The rectors palace
The mountains above Dubrovic and the rectors palace.
Cocktails and a very friendly barman who was playing lots of early 2000s rock hits. he told us about how Dubrovnic flooded acouple of years ago with rain like we were having now. cheery soul.
The city walls from the bus stop! in the horrible rain.
