1st beach day of the year
'twas sunny so we took the train to barry island for the afternoon! :) hurrah!
I love this place its just so tacky and awful thats its full circle! its got everything you could ever want and more besides.
my wife, sunning himself! :) we slept on the rocks for about half an hour, it was just such a gorgeous day! and march! unbelieveable! it was an ace view too ...sooo relaxing! just want i needed after a full morning of lesson planing!
i think this looks like little castles in the rock..just me maybe but its cool. :)
fossils
the type writers are coming for us!! black russians in buffallo? I think so!:) hurrah for sunny days and evening cocktails! ahh.. come on summer!! I want this to be every weekend!
and when we got him, this was what tim had done to his dinner- the fishcakes and chips were all black all the way through and charcoal-y! the whole house smelled of burning!
we got city pizza and got him some replacement, edible chips!
:D
In car sushi & chapter
Amanda and I had "plans" for friday- we were goin to get sushi at the ace resturant on city road, then dive over to chapter to see the medical musical.
we were really organised. and then I was 45 min late.
so our classy, well planned evening turned into a kind of supermarket sweep esque experience- and we have to get take away sushi and eat it in the car- which is MUCH harder than it sounds let me assure you.
all chopsticks and boxes and balancing stuff- especially when its not ur car! we eve had little soy sauce packets to pour over our legs and handbags (yup, that was a fail).
lush sushi tho- and my 1st car dining experience.
the musical was awesome too- It was completely bonkers but it was really really clever. there are clips on youtube and i highly recomened just looking. It was only an hour but it really challenges modern attitudes to body modification and surgery and consumerism etc awesome stuff!
and really well acted too.
so all in all a good and crazy evening.

sometimes I wonder..
...what people would make of the contents of my handbag.
I always kinda wonder what assumptions people would make about me if they went through it!
what do my belongings say about me?
HA especially yesterday!
I'll tip my handbag out in a bit and photograph the contents- any analysis greatly appreciated! so much for women's bags being sacred, secret places- mines turned into a mobile office/drugists/junk shop.
It got to the point where I couldn't even find my wallet/keys and i was thinking "maybe I need another bag for those..."
no, I just need to be more selective!
I remember studying a poem in school once- I think for GCSE- and it was about the things found in a dead mans pockets and you were supposed to make up your own mind as to what they said about the person- I guess thats what i was reminded of when i was desperately searching for my keys yesterday- that and a bit of "Oh, i wondered where that had gone" and "WHY is that is there?"
I found my camera in my bag and it was so full of junk I hadn't realised it was there for almost an entire week (we're not talking about a small camera..it's a compact SLR...).
ALL I know is that I'd better not get hit by a bus any time soon because my ID/ mobile phone are impossible to find. O_o

Please sign this petition!
OK I'm not sure how much "passing trade" this blog gets- I know I click on the "next blog" button every day or so and have a snoop at other peoples lives so I guess sometimes people stumble on my ramblings (and then quickly move on...)
SO whilst you're here passing blog-snooper please sign this petition to save out blood servies in the UK and not let our government turn them into a private money making machine that will stop really sick people receiving the treatments they need.
you will need to copy ad paste this link into your browser:
http://action.unitetheunion.com/page/s/BloodMoney?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=Unite&utm_campaign=20110304BloodMoneyFB&source=20110304BloodMoneyFB
do your good deed for the day and generate some good karma- you never know when you might need something like this- so its no good thinking "that doesn't affect me so I can't be bothered"
something like 1/6 people has a blood transfusion in their lifetime. If this gets passed that will be a very expensive procedure.

Alkaseltzer rockets
Like on blue peter! You will need: 2 sheets of A4 paper, scissors, tape, film capsules, alkaseltzers and water.
1st, make your rocket shape around the film capsule- making sure you take the lid off 1st, and ensuring that the lid still fits snugly on after all the careful designing.
give them a rocket shaped top (make a cone from a circle of paper and tape it on very securely) and hey presto, ready to go take your own eyes out.:)
This is very much a messy and outdoor activity.
turn the rocket upside down, fill the capsule 1/2 way up with cold water, and add 1/2 an alkaseltzer (or a whole one of you fancy a drama) put the lid on as securely as possible.
stand the rocket upright.
run away.
**BLASTOFF**
or, if you didn't put the lid on properly, fizzy mess on the floor.
They work because of the build up of gas in the capsule when the alkaseltzer fizzes- so if you do try this don't go back to them once you've set them!
They take ages coz there has to be enough pressure to blow the lid off- propelling the rocket like 1m up so you'll get a black eye at best.

Sunday Sweeties :)
What better way to start your sunday than a bit of kinder egg construction?
my finished article! (I did have to have some adult assistance with putting the legs on- they were really fiddley! It must have been years since the last time I had one of these- they're ever so exciting!
Traff and James had one each too and got equally as involved so that makes it all ok (they're 3 and 5 years older tha me respectively, so if they're still excited about it then i'm obviously not too old).
Now we have a collection of carefully constructed creatures- I'm not sure what we're supposed to do with them..they're cheering the shelf up for now!
All the little bits and the instructions (it all went much better once I read those- funnily enough)
We had randoms (technically this was before we slept so maybe it should count as saturday..but meh) and I got an umbrella!
There is something childishly fascinating about them all being completely different shapes- I checked very thoroughly and we didn't have any duplicate sweets!
I'm off to northcote lane market- so I might have some perchases to show off later, but for now this is quite enough excitement for one day!

Man sues Indiana strip cub after dangerous "wardrobe malfunction" (he got hit in the face with a shoe!)
I love this article. its brilliant- I saw it on the bust magazine website and thought it ought to be shared- too good not to!
really this begs the question- how would he like the stipper to removed her shoes?
Very carefully with both feet on the floor?
HA
I guess this can be classed as an occupational hazard?
no, I do feel a little sorry for him- Imagine trying to explain that at work/ to your wife/ family- "what happened to your face?!"
Jake Quagliaroli, a 34 year old man from Indiana, was visiting PT's Showclub when the fun-filled night took a high-speed turn. According to his attorney, Syed Ali Saeed, Quagliaroli was hit in the face by a heavy bottomed shoe when an exotic dancer's foot during a "high kick maneuver" went very wrong.
The impact resulted in four chipped teeth. As Saeed stated, "It was not a situation where it was a light tap on the face. It hit him with quite a bit of force. You can imagine the velocity at which the shoe must have come out when it hit him in the face."
Yes, Saeed, we can image. Any stripper worth their salt can whip a shoe off in lightening speed.
Saeed further commented that a strip club has a duty to protect their customers. "[They] need to make sure people are wearing the right kind of clothes and [that those clothes] are not flying off" Saeed stated to AOLnews.
Jeeze, some people are so particular about how they want their stripper's clothes to come off. You know, some men pay 200 dollars per hour to get beat up in the face by a pretty gal like that. Sounds like Quagliaroli got a freebie to me.
Interestingly enough, this is not the first time a strip club has been sued for chunky heel related injuries. I don't think a stripper has ever been awarded for long-term damages to her back, though. Ladies, a lesson: big heels make excellent weapons.

Lazy saturday
I got up VERY early today to help tim move house- so I have a real sense of purpose today!
He's pretty much all moved in now and settled, so thats cool. He's taking my old room- this is the 1st time I've helped someone move into my old room! It was a weird experience!
I had a letter today from my penpal Juan.
He lives in america so letters take ages to get here- They always come just as I think he's forgotten me! He also sent me a Photograph which was nice.
I love letters anyway but his are always really long so now I have to go and write him a book to post back!
my friend and I have started to arrange our holiday too- she's booking the flights today and I'll book the hotel so thats exciting!
So many things done today! (so it's not really a very good "lazy" day).
Next I'm off for a well deserved coffee with Hayley in Gwdihu.
Happy days!

UK Climatologists seek bubble blowers
This is as reported by yahoo news- I am so tempted to apply for a pack! I’m sure someone would be crazy enough to join in with me!
Meteorologists have launched a new campaign to get people in England involved in measuring climate change by using a mirror, soap bubbles or simply looking up at the sky The Met Office national weather service is asking people to complete a series of simple activities to check the results of climatic computer models.
They include measuring wind speed by blowing bubbles into the air to monitoring the direction of clouds with the aid of a mirror.
Participants are being asked to spot plane vapour trails to measure air temperature and humidity, and to record how cold or hot they feel.
"They're all aspects that are actually quite difficult for us to analyse or measure with our standard monitoring network and so it's all about capturing new data that can complement our existing observation and tell us a little more," Met Office climate scientist Mark McCarthy told AFP on Wednesday.
"Contrails (vapour trails), for example -- we want to look at how well weather and climate models are able to predict where contrails do or don't form and whether they do or don't spread out and form clouds."
When planes fly, the burning of the fuel creates water vapour which mixes with the very cold air at high altitudes and condenses. The air is so cold that ice crystals are formed, leaving behind condensation trails -- contrails.
The trails stop heat from leaving Earth and contribute to global warming. But while computers can predict where they should form due to temperature and humidity, the only real way to check is to look at the sky.
Another activity under the OPAL Climate Survey includes asking people to write down if they are hot or cold to help scientists understand how sensitive individuals are to climate change.
The Met Office expects a strong response from the survey, one of several launched in recent years involving the public on environmental issues, and has already distributed 40,000 activity packs to schools and other organisations.

bookshop
Today I went to the second had book shop in Brecon- Its an adventure in itself- It doesn't look very big from the street but inside its massive and all warreny with piles of books everywhere and no real order!
It smells good though.
I like how bookshops smell..it's quite comforting in a weird way.
The man who runs it was lovely too- really helpful although slightly suspicious. maybe I don't look like I can be trusted.Or maybe I look illiterate? who knows.
I could spend all day mooching round in second hand bookshops- I love opening books and finding parts of other peoples lives- bookmarks, postcards, names in the front or notes in factual books (sometimes in literature books too!).
actually, I just love books.
I got 3 very 70s books- one on china, one on india and one on the arctic.
all great big things with colour photos!
and now they're making my room smell book-ish and musty. good times.

woopies! (not woopsies... the "s" makes all the difference)
Yeah, this was more curiosity than anything- Abi introduced me to this idea like more than a year ago (You had the recipie you got sent from america stuck on your kitchen notice board when I came to stay with you last) and it made me curious.
apparently they are some kind of "cake craze" from the USA.
now, I am a conosseur of cake. So I got involved.
To be perfectly honest, I didn't like them. Too sweet..Too much icing not enough actual cake..everyone says they're like "a cross between a cake and a biscuit" but they're more like what happens when you use plain flour and no baking powder.
so, there you have it.
Obviously I had to eat 1 and 1/2 to make sure my judgement was fair (with tea) an just to be absolutely certain I may have to try the other 2 flavours co-op sells (otherwise it wouldn't be a fair test, now would it?)
I'm in no rush though.
Fairy cakes next time please- I am a cake traditionalist. these fancy new inventions won't change my mind!
:P
