Oh yeah! guess who's going to the olympics?

ME.
Mwahahahahaha.

see:

I'm going to watch team GB play Uraguy in cardiff. We'll probably loose, but it's the taking part that counts.

Roller Disco

Kirstie and I went to a 70s themed roller disco in reading on saturday evening- and it was AMAZING.
Rollerskating is hard though- and its weirdly difficult to change direction.

the rink and disco lights constructed in the reading hexagon -even with disco balls!

I have big feet so I had to have man rollerskates.

Kirstie and her rollerskates

ROLLERDISCO! :D woop.

We had a dance at the end to the disco tunes. yay!

medieval wedding outfit

Traff and I are invited to a medieval/fantasy themed wedding in august- I've been fussing over this for ages because the wedding is entirely outside- so if its hot I don't want to cook, but if its rainy I don't want to be too soggy and miserable.
I have finally found an outfit!

It's a floor length black crepe silk dress with beady detail- pretty- see:

I'll wear it with a belt and maybe make some big chiffon sleeves for it so its a bit more fantasyish. might wear my moroccan shoes with it.. :D maybe also find a necklace to wear on my head..

Traff is planning to dress like this- maybe with some contact lenses to make is eyes either entirely black or white:

Cardiff jubilee street party photos- I put these up in another blog post but they don't show!

Climbing snowdon

this is the village where the hotel was situated- the road was like the heads of the valleys! eek! except scarier.

hotel.

Welsh poem- translation greatly appreciated!- as you can see the day I arrived in n orth wales there was glorious sunshine and pretty views- skip forwards 12 hours- 7 am at the car park at the foot of snowdon- you will see the weather was not on our side:
you can't see the mountains properly because there was thick fog and very heavy rain.

This is us after an ours climb- by this point our waterproofs were completely soaked through as it had rained so heavily.
We walked up the P.Y,G track, which I do not think is the easiest track. the rain had made the paths into little streams, making all the rocks very slippery, and our visibility was poor.
I think I would have enjoyed this experience much more in good weather- in poor weather it is genuinely terrifying.

rest stop- we managed to walk off the path we were supposed to take- which is easy on snowdon and especially easy in poor weather- we stopped for some food and a rest and this was our view.

These photos are Simons- My camera was a bit crap in the rain because the lens is so big. the rain drops  got all over the lens and ruined all my photos.
Damn you snowdon weather.

This poster was in the car park at the foot of snowdon- knowing that we were climbing in very poor conditions and that there were weather warnings out I think this did make us feel a bit uneasy- of the 8 of us only myself, jess and Karl were climbing novices, and Helen is training to do mountain hiking as a group leader for a living.

We managed to persuade someone to take our group photo at the foot of the mountain- don't we all look dry and happy?!

And this is us at the top- Soaked to the bone!

on the summit!

This is how I WISH we had gotten to the top- I quite seriously hated every second of the hike. I know I've climbed mountains in good weather with friends in wales and with traff in spain and really enjoyed it- but this was scary. you can see how poor our visibility was.

View on the way back down- the fog had lifted a little if you compare this one to my photo from the way up.

Me, Karl and Helen, and some fog.

Going up took us 3 hours- we had expected it to take us 2, but our detour and the weather held us back. the way down took us about two hours. I'm really proud of myself for doing it, and for climbing the highest peak in wales!

This is us after dinner, just about recovered and able to walk in betws-y-coed.

snowdonia

I’m off to north Wales today (for the first time ever) to climb Snowdon (also for the first time ever). I really think I’ve go these two events round the wrong way-  I’d done al my unfit drinking and partying and mooching about and now I have to go and exhort myself.
I also didn’t realise that it takes most people about 8 hours (4 hours up, 4 hours down).
Bugger.
Someone remind me why I’ve agreed to do this again?!

The forecast is torrential rain, gales ranging from 30-70 mph and scattered hill fog with no expectation of it lifting.

Karl rang me yesterday day was like “do you have some waterproof trousers? You’ll definitely need them.”
Thankfully Sarah has a really good pair and a better coat than me she bought for Glastonbury so she’s lent me them.

So, now I’m off to do some Cardiff-based chores including buying some things to make into a packed lunch to take walking with me. Eurgh.

The elevation of Snowdon is 970 meters.
I haven’t seen it yet but that sounds like an awful lot of effort. :S

This is where I’m heading for (although I have a distinct feeling this will not be where my sat nav takes me..):
