Turvey

Today Traff and I went to have a look see at some of the villages near to where I will be working from september. we were looking to move anyways but now there is no rush as my new school is near enough to the flat not to be a nightmare to get to.

We went through Biddenham to Turvey.

Turvey is a beautiful village- proper cotswold-y it looks like the set of some edwardian period drama!

And it is properly in the countryside- we went for a mooch and ended up going for a 4 mile walk through fields and along bridal ways:

This is the view as we walked back into the Village! how quaint!

This is Ye three fyshes pub- the food menu looks AMAZING- we'll be returning to eat there- we tried to have lunch there today but it was ever so busy.

Traff in the pub garden.

Outdoors drinkie-poos! ooh, how sophisticated.

We gave up waiting for a table at the pub in Turvey and drove back to bedford- we went to get dinner in Modello- it was lush! we had flatbread sandwiches and cocktails- 2-4-1 cocktails at all times- what more could you want?
oh, wait, icecream cocktails? they do those too!

We decided we needed cupcakes, so the wife made them.
CUPCAKES!

How good do they look?

Wooden spoon

We LOST the pub quiz again=- for the first time in ages- it was only Karl, Mark and I so we did pretty well really- most people had teams of 6.

The Quiz this week was in support of Bromham elementary school in india.

So the spoon was very ethnic- we let Karl take it home, but so far we've won 3 boobie prizes and one actual 1st place prize. you get wine for that. not crockery.

celebrating

Today has been a very good day!

I have a new job for september at a very supportive school- although I'm not handing my notice in until 1/2 term- so no one is to let the cat out of the bag.
Thanks.

Celebrating with a MASSIVE glass of baileys and a take away chinese from my wifeling!

modern technology

Our boiler packed up a week or so ago- We had really bad weather- the weekend we went to Kings Lynn- whilst we were out we must have had a power cut.

We got up on sunday to have a wash and we only had a freezing cold house with freezing cold water! erugh.
I actually ran a whole bath of cold water and jumped in it- I've never jumped out of the bath so quickly before in my whole life. bath hokey cokey.

We spent ages trying to fix it, but the pilot light was out and it needed to be "reset". we trawled the handbook and nowhere could you do one without the other being in place.
Had to get the plumber out- and it was all finally sorted out on tuesday.

In the mean time we had to boil pans of water on the stove to have a wash! it took ages! I ended up with like a proper 1940s austerity bath. not more than 4 inches of water- except I didn't offer to share the bath water with the neighbours.

Durham- Sunday

The angel of the north!
on our way back to newcastle to go to the baltic- as we got distracted by a craft fayre and didn't go on saturday.

We met one of Abi's friends- Nicky in Newcastle and went for breakfast at a 50s style diner- town was rammed we forgot there was a football match.

This amazing looking drink is a Reeses peanut butter cup milkshake.
it is heavenly.
This I want to have for breakfast every day!

Pancakes for breakfast! :)
very american.

Abi had a vegi cheese burger for breakfast- when it arrived I was jealous.

I think we got forgotten about and the order took almost an hour to come- so we got all our drinks for free!
The milkshakes are normally £3.50 each so that was a bit of a score!

We went back to wards the train station and headed for Gateshead- where the Baltic is located- lots of really pretty victorian buildings to photo graph- its just so industrial!

The baltic flour mill, and the Gateshead millennium bridge.

The view from the top floor of the baltic- pretty cool!

This was a really strange art thing happening outside the baltic- the people and playing recorders and accordions discordantly. the black bits are piles of compost.
anyone with a reasonable explanation please do enlighten me.

The funniest bit of it all was that stood by them there was a one man band, removing the cymbals from his knees and looking disgruntled.
bless him.

I bet his music was better than theirs!

The programme! we went to see all the exhibitions.

Which made us very hungry so we had to have tea and cake.

Thank you very much for having me Abi!
:D

I had an awesome time- although you still owe me hadrian's Wall!

Durham- Saturday

The Durham sky line on the way to the train station to go to Newcastle- for a spot of shopping and lots of mooching.

Bunny print dress in H&M.
Cute.
and a bit odd.

Chilli pepper dress in Primark.

Abi and I went for lunch in "the singing kettle"- its a super cute vegetarian cafe. the smoothies and sandwhiches were amazing!- as promised- as was the eclectic decor.
YES PLEASE for next time

OK, rubbish photo of me-  but check out the odd bod behind me- bless him, smile for the camera!

This was advertised in the cafe.. guess where we went next?

The collest thingthere was a lady who made jewelry from seaglass- it was sooo pretty, but kind of pricey.

This was a cupcake bar in the shopping center in Newcastle- We didn't eat any, but they look very cool!
lots of support for the local team!

Abi looks hungry!

This is the Durham skyline on our return- check out the sky! it was cold but it was really sunny and bright.

This is the Mediterranean cafe in Durham- I will be visting next time!

We went to Gareth's for pizza-dinner and watched man V food- by the time we walked home at 10pm it was getting dark.

This is Durham Viaduct- I can't get over how tall it is- it's insane.

The evil hill. my shins hurt.
